When the analysis of an abstract painter’s work is identified, it is important to seek their personality, as though it were a reflection freshly imprinted on the canvas. Some consider informalism a liberation, others a personal idealism about reality. Yet most make and manage this vibrant impulse of shape and colours as they choose.
What is interesting about Joëlle Lagier is the quality of her inspiration, and the former Parisian, who now looks out over the town of Rouen from the heights of Bonsecours, succeeds at this abstract vocation through the globetrotting and dreamlike influences that her personality outlines. She is no doubt averse to uniformity, but is bold and dynamic, and her inspired lyricism also emphasises emotion and impression. In paintings and collages therefore, this artist offers an intense richness of movement, which she deftly develops using brilliant rhythms, including them generously or at times more sparingly.
By structuring, simplifying or celebrating life, nature and expressions, Joëlle Lagier designs and builds a world that is very much her own, one that is regulated by parallels or energetic twists against limitless, symbolic and mysterious backgrounds. This creates a world that is abstract and fascinating, one in which value and spontaneous elegance are perceptible, peopling her creations with remarkably inspired and appealing aesthetic impacts.
